Weekly 4

Too start the week with a presentation as to how far I am in the project was quite nice to receive all this feedback from the class as to what i should do about my character design, and this has helped me in improving the character design for the final result which is this picture below of the characters face style.

I made an anamatic from the storyboard which i may need to further define and start animating on since i'm going to fall behind if i don't soon, the timing is ok and fits within 30 seconds which i hope i could produce!

To finish the week of i made a line art which i hope to colour next week of my new character design which is hopefully the final version, so that i can start animating and getting on with the process of making the backgrounds and bus stop design. I will also need to place my refined storyboard on to the A3 storyboard page and final character design on the the A3 page to finalize the whole process of post production.

Telling Tales week 3

At the start of this week I had some complications with getting to a final semi realistic face with hair style, I'm almost sissified with the result which i think i will be able to animate and pull of. I might have to develop the character a little further if i need to change the character a little to suit the bus idea situation, for now I've chosen to stick with this designs below:

Which I think is easy and simple looking to animate, I've also tried to learn or rather investigate into expressions by gathering some photos on my pinterest, showcasing semi realistic drawings which should help me throughout showing my characters emotion towards the situation she currently is in.

Also during last week I discovered a concept artist who made a art book which held 365 drawings which he did everyday for a year. each drawing took about 2 hours according to his Q&A page in his book where he explains the process of how he gets the idea and pushes his self to produce an almost finished piece. This book gave me a lot of inspiration and i decided that id like to create a quick concept background for this brief and try to figure out what colour i could use when it comes to making the background of my animation. here is that example:

Whilst producing this concept i learned a lot about what effects i could produce if i blurred the background and added light effects to different objects in the scene. There is still a lot to learn yet I'm confident that i know how the backgrounds would look like in the final animation. here are some images that inspired me whilst drawing that concept from Atey.

As I progress I am hoping to try and understand my surroundings as to where my animation is going to take place, which is actually near my local bus stop since the area has a nice composition. Here are some photos i took of the bus stop i take every day:

like Atey's drawings i want to try to make the background stand out by using strong saturation and understand lighting and shadows.  19/10/16

I've come up with some interesting designs for the character which i think could improve the comedy, here are some which id like to develop or scrap unless it does not fit the look I'm going for exactly. here are the designs:

i hope to produce more clothes design trying to finalize my character for next week, so that i can get feed back as to what i need to do to make it her suited for the situation.

I had to redefine the storyboard and changed it a little to include a small back story so the animation has a narrative as to why this female character is taking the bus. Here is the defined storyboard which I will place into the A3 storyboards later on since its not fully completed or is a final storyboard.

Plot explanation: a female is waiting at a bus stop and receives a message form a friend which informs her that its her last chance to get to this particular place, she also sends a photo of this place. As the character reads this message the bus she wants to catch comes by and does not stop, this is because she did not raise her hand, in a second attempt she raises her hand but the bus goes by because its out of services, on her 3rd attempt the bus stops. she enters and it is crowded or rather filled with people. As the bus moves, it struggles to move any further which stops the female character from reaching her destination.

Telling Tales week 2

Starting of week 2 with a bit of a struggle deciding as to what idea i wanted to choose for this project. But after discussing it with a few people i decided on the idea of the bus stop which branched from the title "Last Chance"

heres: the final spider diagram:

so for this week I've been developing a character design and storyboards for the idea which I'm basing of my own experience at a bus stop. I've had many ideas for this bus stop from before i started this year, and have wanted to create for some time now.

here's a sketch page of everything i did:
there's a lot going on in the above image, i started of with how the character could look like. For this project I'm going for a young women who is simple, The reason behind why a choose a female for this project is that I want to practice emotions and expressions within my style of semi realistic (anime) since i think i can achieve the effect of comedic value. I want to show a vast majority of emotions to make the character feel real.

Here's a closer shoot of the storyboard:
I will have to define this storyboard and place it into the A3 storyboards, The story is about this young women getting the bus and ends up missing the first bus then missing the second bus because its out of service which then leads on to her getting on a late bus which breaks down when she get on. the back story for why she is trying to get onto a bus is because she has a meeting with a friend that she has to attend to, and its her last chance to meet up with them. This story is still a work in progress and I might change a few scenes since more angles could be involved, The plot wont change hopefully,

hopefully by next week i will have a character design sorted and a defined storyboard. I'm also planning on making some mood boards and doing some observational drawings of my local  bus stop. whilst doing the observational drawings i think i may take some pictures and record the surrounding sound or rather background sound.

telling tales week 1

At the beginning of the brief I began to think u ideas for the titles that were presented. with this in mind I made a mind map with four of the titles; Leap of Faith, The message, Happy Days and last chance. These were the titles I liked from the majority.

here is a WIP mind map:

I'm still in the development of ideas stage since Im not sure as to which idea is taking my interest. to also help me out a little with generating ideas was making little thumbnails as to what i could imagine in my head for the different ideas.

Throughout the week i did get some ideas from students in the class, I asked for feedback and this helped me with expanding some of ideas as u can see on the mind map. As i drew the thumbnails i thought about the narrative structure and whether i could fit or rather fill 30 seconds. The thumbnails are of key moments which could be potential scenes as i develop the idea.

I'm hoping to choose an idea for the following week and progress to do some mood boards and some research to develop the chosen idea!
