I researched into what occurred in Iraq, and I found this link from the BBC showcasing the whole timeline of events that happened in Iraq, this included Saddam becoming President, the Iraq vs Iran war and much more.
I got a better perspective as to what happened and I could also relate this to Persepolis as it also talks about it throughout the animation.

I also found a video of Saddam announcing that he is the President.
Quite interesting and I may use this as a reference as a part of my animation, making sure that it is historically correct.
